A couple weeks ago I got to take a day trip to Basel, Switzerland. My uncle Jeff and his mom Rita came to Paris to visit me and we all went together. We took the train there on Saturday morning and headed back to Paris Saturday night. Passing through the French countryside at dawn was absolutely magical. We passed tons of tiny towns and rolling hills. Sometimes you could see a castle in the town or on the hills surrounding the town. I love this part about being on the train, you actually get to see what's around you unlike an airplane. The train got stopped for like an hour so we ended up having a little bit of a shorter day than expected. Once we did finally get there, we explored for a while and then found a place for lunch. It was such a cool town. It had a mixture of medieval and German architecture that was colorful and beautiful. It was a beautiful sunny day which made walking around and exploring so enjoyable.

For lunch we sat outside right by the water it was beautiful. We split some Weiner schnitzel (of course) and a flatbread pizza type thing that had creme fraiche as the sauce topped with bacon and onions (that didn't even taste like onions they were so sweet). It was such a relaxing a nice lunch enjoying the great weather. After lunch we explored a bit more. We bought tickets for a tour bus but was never able to catch it which was very annoying. The bus drove away as we were running towards it, wouldn't let us get on because it was near the end of the route, etc. Lesson learned: don't book a bus tour in Basel. We explored the main square in that had a beautiful town hall building and a market.

We also got some Swiss hot Chocolate that was absolutely amazing. It was the perfectly rich and creamy while not being too rich that it was hard to drink.
In the afternoon we went the Kunstmuseum which houses the largest public art collection in Switzerland. It was a super cool museum filled with Monet (my personal favorite), Picasso and many other pieces. The main area of the museum was filled with different paintings of the Swiss Alps. They all were different styles and interpretations of the scenery. I had never really seen a museum set up that way which I found really interesting. It allowed you to compare different styles of art and brought together the beauty of the Alps very well.
After a very full day in Switzerland we headed back to Paris for the rest of a great week in Paris with my family!
